DFW PR Girl: Can you please tell me a bit about yourself and describe your design aesthetic?
Deborah Edgar: I’m called Ms Deb by my students and DE by friends but my mom calls me Deborah and taught me how to sew. I’ve been sewing for over 40 years and designing only 5. My design aesthetic is classic elegance, clean lines, using color and prints for fun. I love the texture and drape that the natural textiles of cotton, silk, linen and wool give because those fibers feel good against the skin and I think, clothes should adorn the body enhance a beautiful piece of creation.
DFW PR Girl: Who is your biggest style inspiration?
Deborah Edgar: Well that’s a ‘what’ for me, and that is Project Runway. Although it’s a reality show it gives up & coming designers an opportunity that they would not receive and I think it’s challenging because every designer that’s eliminated I try to think of things to “make it work”. Nina, Michael and really all the judges give great design tips & critiques. But I also want to state, I had a cousin who loved to sew her own style, loved coloroful prints, so in her memory I created the CR Collection, which you will see on the runway.
DFW PR Girl: What do you hope to gain from showing at Detroit Fashion Week?
Deborah Edgar: Buyers! But also, some recognition that Detroit is the place to come for fashion even if you are on your way to or coming from LA or NY!
